The Katalitichesky converter - the general information, check of a condition and replacement

In order to avoid infringement of the guarantee certificates extending on components of systems of decrease of toxicity of fulfilled gases, make check and service каталитического the converter in the conditions of a car-care centre workshop.


The general information

The Katalitichesky converter is a component of systems of decrease in toxicity of the fulfilled gases, is included in structure of system of release and serves for issue decrease in atmosphere of toxic components. There are two types каталитических converters. The usual oxidising converter allows to lower the maintenance in the fulfilled gases of hydrocarbons and монооксида carbon. Three-functional каталитический the converter (TWC) in addition allows to reduce issue оксидов nitrogen (NОХ). On all models considered in the present Management are used three-functional каталитические converters.

On considered models the structure of system of release of the fulfilled gases includes two TWC, outwardly looking as the additional muffler.

Base components of the catalyst are platinum (Pt) and rhodium (Rh) which mix is put by a thin layer on having form of an oval a cellular design, or a porous ceramic basis.

Check

The diagnostic equipment for check of serviceability of a condition каталитического the converter is expensive and the extremely difficult in operation. At occurrence of suspicions on converter refusal, drive away the car for check on a car repair shop.

Each time when the car for any reason rises over the earth, examine the converter on presence of signs of mechanical damages, traces of leaks and corrosion development. Check a condition of welded seams and reliability of a tightening фланцевых bolts of fastening of the device to sections of system of release of the fulfilled gases. Defective каталитический the converter is subject to replacement.

Watch reliability of fastening of a thermofilter and that between the converter and chassis/body elements the backlash of sufficient size (see the Head Routine maintenance) constantly remained.

Removal

If the stereosystem established on the car is equipped by a security code before to disconnect the battery make sure that have a correct combination for audiosystem input in action!


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.
2. Disconnect electroconducting from the forward oxygen gauge (see Has undressed Information gauges, the relay and actuation mechanisms - the general information).
3. On the Californian models at the given stage disconnect also electroconducting from the back oxygen gauge (see Has undressed Information gauges, the relay and actuation mechanisms - the general information).
4. Поддомкратьте the car also establish it on props.
5. Disconnect electroconducting from the back oxygen gauge (except the Californian models).
6. Separate from forward каталитического the converter the central section of system of release.
7. Turn out bolts of fastening of a reception pipe to heads of cylinders.
8. Separate каталитический the converter from a reception pipe.

Do not delay downwards a reception pipe and the central section of system of release!


Installation

All sealing linings of system of release of the fulfilled gases are subject to replacement without fail!

Installation is made upside-down. All fixture is tightened with demanded effort (30 5 Nanometers: каталитический the converter to a reception pipe and a reception pipe to heads; 35 5 Nanometers: каталитический the converter to the central section).

Removal

If the stereosystem established on the car is equipped by a security code before to disconnect the battery make sure that have a correct combination for audiosystem input in action!


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.
2. Поддомкратьте the car also establish it on props.
3. Disconnect electroconducting from the back oxygen gauge (except the Californian models).
4. Disconnect assemblage of the central section of system of release with back catalytic the converter from back section.
5. Disconnect the central section from forward каталитического the converter.
6. Remove the disconnected assemblage with подвесов support.

Try not to delay downwards the remained sections of system of release of the fulfilled gases!


Installation

Installation is made upside-down. Track, that all fixture has been tightened with demanded effort (35 5 Nanometers: the central section to forward каталитическому to the converter; 18 5 Nanometers: assemblage of the central section with catalytic the converter to back section; 35 5 Nanometers: the central section to arms of support).
